Ami Mpungwe, Executive
Chairman
Mr Mpungwe was appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the Board in October 2008, having previously held the position of Chairman of the Group's Tanzanian subsidiary since March 2000, and has been integral to its establishment and development. He has an Honours degree in International Relations and Political Science and a diploma in International Law and has spent 25 years in the diplomatic service, including six years as Tanzanian Ambassador to South Africa.
He holds directorships in National Bank of Commerce, Tanzania Breweries Ltd, Kilombero Sugar Co. Ltd, Air Tanzania, Maersk Tanzania Ltd, MultiChoice Tanzania Ltd, and NIKO Insurance Co. (Tanzania) Ltd.
Edward Nealon, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman
Mr Nealon was appointed Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the Board in October 2008. Mr Nealon is a geologist with 30 years experience in the mining and exploration industry. After graduating in 1974, he commenced his career in South Africa with Anglo American Corporation, before moving to Australia in 1980 where he spent two years in exploration with the Rio Tinto Group. He founded his own consulting company in 1983 and has practised in most of the world's major mining centres. He holds a masters degree in Geology and is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Bernard Olivier (33), Executive Director
Dr Olivier is a geologist and has a PhD in Economic Geology. He is also a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. His dissertation covered all aspects of the Merelani Tanzanite deposit and formed the foundations of the development of the current mining operations. He has been closely associated with the gemstone tanzanite since 1999 and prior to joining the board he acted as a consultant to TanzaniteOne. Dr Olivier has been working as a geologist since 1998 and has worked throughout several of sub-Saharan African countries and parts of Asia, among them Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, Burundi, Malawi, Namibia, Cambodia and the Philippines. He is technical director of Bezant Resources Plc (AIM: BZT) and non-executive director of Great Australian Resources (ASX:GAU).
Nicholas Sibley, Non-Executive Director
Mr Sibley is a Chartered Accountant. He was formerly Chairman of Wheelock Capital from 1994 to 1997, as well as Executive Chairman of Barclays de Zoete Wedd (Asia Pacific) Limited from 1989 to 1993. He is a former Managing Director of Jardine Flemings and Barclays de Zoete Wedd Holdings. He is currently Chairman of Aquarius Platinum and a Director of Corney & Barrow Group and Asia Pacific Fund Inc.
Ryke Zane Swanepoel - Managing Director
Prior to being appointed General Manager of TanzaniteOne Mining Limited, Zane ran a poly-metallic mine in Armenia, three dimension stone mines in the UK and various chromite operations in Zimbabwe. Zane has over 27 years of mining experience of which 23 years have been in a managerial roll.
At TanzaniteOne, Zane oversees the mining operations as well as being a member of the Company’s Executive Committee, whose roll is to plan and fulfil the strategic needs of the company. |
Management
Nick Hughes - TanzaniteOne Mining, General Manager
Nick brings some 35 years of mining experience to the TZ1 Team, ranging from ultra deep level gold to platinum and massive copper. Having worked mostly in South Africa , Nick has also run operations in Namibia and spent limited time in Angola. He has operated mostly in Management roles and also spent some time as a mining consultant.
Wessel Marais - TanzaniteOne Mining, Assistant General Manager
Wessel joined the company in 2000 and has been responsible for managing the Logistics and Human Resources functions at the mine in Tanzania. He has been extensively involved in developing these functions and has also assisted in evolving the security function coming from a 19 year military career, together with the rest of the operation.
Faustus Felician Rutahindurwa - Chief Geologist
Prior to joining AFGEM in November 2000, Faustus held various positions with SAMAX Limited, including Exploration Geologist, and later moved on to one of their subsidiaries, GRAPHTAN Limited where he later was appointed as Chief Geologist. In 1998, he became a partner in a tanzanite mining concession on Block D, where he gained broad knowledge and expertise relating to tanzanite’s geology and extraction. Faustus is currently a key member of TanzaniteOne Mining Geology Department and participates in all areas of geology for TanzaniteOne. To date, he has successfully integrated local knowledge and geological models into the tanzanite operation.
Glenham Shaw - Processing Plant Manager
Glen has over 30 years’ operational and management experience in metallurgy, including nine years at various operations within the Metorex Group of Companies as plant superintendent, gold plant manager and metallurgical superintendent (for Graphtan). Prior to joining AFGEM in 1999, Glen worked at Barbrook Gold Mine, Falconbridge and Havelock Asbestos Mines Limited.
At TanzaniteOne Mining Limited, Glen is responsible for the planning, implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures for processing plant operation, as well as the efficient operations of the processing plant.
Emmanuel Ernest Mtawali - Civil and Construction Manager
Ernest completed a Diploma in Mining through the Heilebury School of Mines, Canada and a Post Graduate Diploma in Production Management. Ernest served in various posts at Williams Diamonds Limited for a total of 12 years. These included Heavy Media Operator, Pits Superintendent and Plant Foreman. He joined AFGEM (now TanzaniteOne Mining Limited) in July 1999 to oversee civil engineering and construction.
Lusekelo Mwakalukwa – Corporate Governance Manager
Prior to joining TanzaniteOne Mining Company in April 2007, Lusekelo had been employed as a lawyer in various law firms, notably Rex Attorneys in Dar es Salaam, a leading firm in corporate and mining law consultancy. Lusekelo is involved in corporate governance and compliance matters, which broadly encompass investor relations, coordinating various aspects of governance as well as legal compliance matters. Lusekelo has an Honours Degree in Law from the University of Dar es Salaam and has dealt with corporate and investment matters at length.
Farai Manyemba - Chief Financial Officer
Farai is a Chartered Accountant. After completing his articles and working at various managerial levels at Deloitte & Touché , he joined Zimasco (Pty) Limited (chrome business) as Group Accountant and later as Group Audit manager before joining Mimosa Platinum Mine (a significant platinum business), a division of Aquarius Platinum Limited, as the finance executive . In January 2007, Farai joined the business as financial manager.
